PCR plastic and sugarcane-based PE are better understood as material-source options within a plastic tube system rather than completely separate tube constructions. In the same way, ABL and PBL describe laminate structures, while “airless” describes a dispensing system rather than a resin.

What Products Use Collapsible Tube Packaging?
Collapsible tubes are especially useful when a product needs to be squeezed out in a controlled amount. In skincare packaging, beauty and personal care, common examples include:

- sunscreen and after-sun products;

The strongest advantage of tube packaging is the combination of dispensing control and packaging flexibility. The user presses only the area needed to release product, which works well for formulations that are too thick for a simple pour bottle.
Tubes also avoid repeated finger contact with the bulk product inside the container, which can be useful for creams and gels that would otherwise be packed in an open-mouth jar. Their relatively low package weight and compact shape make them practical for both full-size and travel-oriented product ranges.
For a brand, the tube body also provides a large decoration area. Printing, color, matte or gloss effects, metallic details, specialty caps and different tube shapes can change the visual position of the package without changing the fundamental squeeze-dispensing format.
Barrier performance is another reason to consider tubes, but the construction has to match the requirement. Basic PE, co-extruded PE, PBL, ABL and aluminum structures do not provide the same protection. If oxygen, moisture, light or fragrance retention matters to the formula, barrier structure should be selected as part of the package specification rather than assumed from the word “tube.”
Are Collapsible Tubes the Same as Airless Tubes?
No. A collapsible tube and an airless tube describe different packaging concepts.
A conventional collapsible or squeeze tube dispenses product because the user directly compresses the flexible tube body. An airless tube uses an airless dispensing system, usually involving a pump or another controlled mechanism designed to move product without a conventional dip-tube arrangement.

The distinction matters when sourcing packaging. A brand looking for a simple cream tube may need a PE, PBL or ABL squeeze tube. A project that specifically requires pump dispensing and an airless system belongs in the airless tubes category instead.

A tube can look correct in a catalog and still need adjustment once the actual formula, closure and decoration are combined. Sample approval should focus on the parts that directly affect filling, dispensing and daily use.
- Formula and tube construction: confirm the selected PE, laminate or aluminum structure matches the required barrier and product-contact needs.
- Fill volume and tube dimensions: check that the intended fill works with the selected diameter, length and finished appearance.
- Orifice and dispensing: the opening should release the required amount without making the product unnecessarily difficult to squeeze or control.
- Cap and closure: check opening force, closing security, alignment and leakage performance.
