Nail polish bottle sizes commonly range from smaller 5ml, 8ml and 10ml formats to 15ml (about 0.5 fl oz), a common full-size reference.
There is no universal bottle size, and capacity does not tell you the physical size of the package. Two bottles can both hold 15ml while having different heights, widths and shapes.
If you are choosing a nail polish bottle, look at two things: how much polish it should hold and the actual dimensions of the bottle you want to use.
What Is the Standard Nail Polish Bottle Size?
There is no single standard that every nail polish brand follows. For a full-size bottle, 15ml / 0.5 fl oz is a common reference. Smaller capacities such as 5ml, 8ml and 10ml are also regularly found in nail polish packaging ranges.
The word size can mean two different things:
- Capacity — how much polish the bottle holds, such as 5ml, 8ml, 10ml or 15ml.
- Dimensions — the outside width, depth, diameter and height of the bottle.
A 15ml bottle therefore has a common capacity, but it does not have one standard height or shape.
Common Nail Polish Bottle Sizes: 5ml, 8ml, 10ml and 15ml
These four capacities cover a useful range from small bottles to a common full-size format.
| Capacity | Approx. US fl oz | Typical format |
|---|---|---|
| 5ml | 0.17 fl oz | Small bottles, minis, samples and multi-color sets |
| 8ml | 0.27 fl oz | Compact bottle format |
| 10ml | 0.34 fl oz | Mid-size bottle format |
| 15ml | 0.51 fl oz | Common full-size reference |
Capacity is easy to compare. The physical package is less predictable. An 8ml bottle may be slim and tall or wider and shorter. The same applies to 10ml and 15ml bottles.
Why Do Nail Polish Bottle Dimensions Vary?
Capacity measures internal volume. Bottle dimensions describe the outside of the package.
One bottle may hold more product by becoming taller. Another may use more width or depth. This is why milliliters cannot be converted into one standard set of bottle dimensions.
A square glass bottle series from MUZHPACK provides a simple example:
| Capacity | Reference dimensions |
|---|---|
| 5ml | 25 × 25 × 65mm |
| 10ml | 25 × 25 × 76mm |
| 15ml | 28 × 28 × 79mm |

The 5ml and 10ml versions in this series have the same 25 × 25mm footprint. The 10ml bottle gains height instead. At 15ml, both the footprint and height increase.
The change is not proportional to capacity. Doubling the capacity from 5ml to 10ml does not double the outside dimensions.
The same capacity can come in different shapes
Shape adds another variable. A round 15ml bottle, a square 15ml bottle and a wider decorative 15ml bottle can all hold the same amount of polish while taking up different amounts of space.

MUZHPACK’s current 15ml bottle range, for example, includes round, square, rectangular and other shaped designs. The capacity stays at 15ml, but the proportions and presentation change with the bottle.
Shape also changes the space available for decoration and the way a bottle fits into a carton, tray or gift set.
How Do You Choose Between 5ml, 8ml, 10ml and 15ml?
5ml
Choose a small capacity when the smaller format is part of the product itself. A 5ml bottle can work for a mini collection, sample size, gift set or a set containing several colors.
8ml and 10ml
Compare 8ml and 10ml when you want more product than a mini bottle but prefer something smaller than a 15ml format.
Look at the actual bottle designs before choosing between them. A slim 8ml bottle can be taller than a wider 10ml bottle, so the difference on the shelf may be greater—or smaller—than the capacity numbers suggest.
15ml
For a conventional full-size polish, 15ml is a practical place to start. From there, compare the available shapes rather than treating all 15ml bottles as the same package.
A tall round bottle, a square bottle and a wider decorative bottle may all work at 15ml. The better choice depends on the proportions you want, the decoration area you need and the space available in any secondary packaging.
Which Nail Polish Bottle Dimensions Should You Check?
For a round bottle, check the maximum diameter and height.
For a square or rectangular bottle, check the maximum width, depth and height.
If the product will go into a carton, tray or fitted insert, also check the complete package with the cap installed. A tall cap can add significant height without changing the bottle capacity.
Do not use the dimensions of another 10ml or 15ml bottle for your box design. Use the drawing and sample for the bottle you selected.
It is also worth confirming what each dimension on the supplier drawing represents. For example, check whether the stated height refers to the bottle itself or the complete closed package before using it for a carton or insert.
What Should You Check on a Bottle Sample?
A sample should confirm more than the appearance of the bottle.
- Capacity: Does the selected bottle hold the amount of product you plan to offer?
- Dimensions: Does the finished package fit the space available for the product?
- Cap and brush: Are you reviewing the component combination intended for production?
- Decoration: Is there enough usable area for the planned printing, label or finish?
- Carton or set: Does the complete bottle fit the secondary packaging?
- Filled package: Has the intended formula been reviewed with the final bottle, cap and brush combination?
If you are preparing a packaging order, the Cosmetic Packaging Quality Control Checklist covers additional checks before mass production.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the standard nail polish bottle size?
There is no universal standard, but 15ml / 0.5 fl oz is a common full-size nail polish bottle capacity. Smaller 5ml, 8ml and 10ml bottles are also available.
What is the average nail polish bottle size?
There is no single industry-wide average across every brand. If you mean a typical full-size bottle, 15ml / 0.5 fl oz is a useful reference.
How tall is a 15ml nail polish bottle?
There is no standard height. The height depends on the bottle shape and cap. Two 15ml bottles can hold the same volume and still have very different dimensions.
Are 10ml nail polish bottles smaller than 15ml bottles?
They hold less product, but every outside dimension will not necessarily shrink by the same amount. Compare the measurements of the actual bottle designs.
Is 5ml considered a mini nail polish bottle?
5ml is well suited to small and mini formats. The final appearance still depends on the shape of the bottle and the cap.
Do I need the bottle dimensions before designing a box?
Yes. Use the actual dimensions of the selected bottle with its cap installed. Capacity alone is not enough to determine the correct carton size.
